On September 16, 2024, Safee Foundation and the Dalit Women’s Collective, in collaboration with The Purple Verandah, organized a Gender Sensitization program for 35 adolescent girls from Singareni Colony. The workshop focused on educating the girls about the difference between gender and sex. They were introduced to the concept that gender is not limited to a binary framework, learning about three types of gender: female, male, and intersex. Additionally, the session addressed how gender stereotypes can influence societal expectations and behaviors. The girls were made aware of the negative impacts of gender discrimination and the importance of promoting gender equality in their communities. The initiative aimed to empower the participants with knowledge to challenge conventional norms and contribute to a more equitable society.
